What is NLP?In coaching we say the gap between where you are and where you want to be is the story you tell yourself about why you can’t have it. That story is the result of the programming you’ve grown up with and experience every day.

Most of us don’t understand how that unconscious programming influences our belief system about ourselves and what is possible for us. We’re equally ignorant about how to make deliberate choices with the language we use when talking to ourselves or others. As a result, we are often unconsciously creating what we do not want in our life.

NLP, which stands for neuro-linguistic programming, is a structured process that helps us recognize and alter these limiting beliefs and patterns. Ironically, that notion unnerves some people.

“You want to program me?” they’ll say to me when they first hear about NLP, as if I am about to do something really scary.  “You’ve already been programed,” I reply. “You watch the news and get a limited perspective on the world. You watch commercials and get messages about how you’re supposed to look what you’re supposed to wear, what type of car you should be driving.” In short, you’re being programmed every day, every time you turn on computer, your TV or pick up a magazine. You’ve also been programmed by your parents, by society and by your culture. All of that “programming” is already there.”

That’s where NLP can help. Through cutting-edge techniques involving neuro (brain) linguistic (language) processes, NLP helps you detect conscious as well as unconscious—and often unacknowledged—thinking and behavioral patterns that are potentially blocking you. Even better, NLP allows you to actually rewire the pathways in your brain to develop the behavioral competence, flexibility, and strategic thinking you need to get unstuck.

Clients who receive coaching along with NLP report experiencing reaching goals they never believed were possible. In the process of being coached, they identify the obstacles that are holding them back from achieving the lives they dream of. By reprogramming their limiting beliefs and self-talk, they can then carve out their individual pathway to success.

If you’re looking to step out of your own way, an NLP Coach can partner with you to help you rewire your brain in order to create the life you want.
