How would you define a powerful question? In your daily life you probably ask many questions throughout your day. Certified coaches are trained in the art of powerful questions, Powerful questions are open-ended, meaningful and used in order to elicit change. Coaches ask their clients these questions to help them identify other potential solutions. Asking a question that only requires a yes/no answer or to gain information is not considered a powerful question; the client does not accumulate further insight or awareness. A coach can help you by asking power questions in different situations, therefore providing you with the wisdom to make an appropriate decision.

  • “What’s the truth?”
    A coach may ask a question that seems difficult or edgy in order to show their willingness to take a risk. This can evolve into an eye-opening experience for a client by helping them re-evaluate a situation, rather than just accepting it at face value.

    This type of question can empower a client to re-evaluate themselves. The question may help them confront their situation head-on and provide them with a much needed solution.
